Riau Islands Province was formed on the basis of Law No. 25 of 2002 is the 32 Provinces in Indonesia that covers Tanjungpinang City, City of Batam, Bintan Regency, Karimun Regency, Natuna Regency, and Regency Linga.

Located on the island of Sumatra. The north is bordered by the Riau Islands and the Strait of Malacca, south of the province of Jambi and the Strait of idolatry, on the east by South China Sea (Riau Islands province), west side is bordered by the Province of West Sumatra and North Sumatra Province.

Population 4,563,406 inhabitants (2005 statistics Indonesia)

Riau is rich in natural resources, both wealth contained in the bowels of the earth, in the form of oil and natural gas, gold, etc.. including the wealth of forest, plantations, rivers and sea. With regional autonomy, wealth is gradually began to be distributed in full to the area (not completely given to the center) again.
